Our History
After graduating from Penn State with a degree in agronomy, I started as a golf course superintendent in Northeastern Ohio. I realized very quickly that soil testing and analysis was an invaluable tool for information to the superintendent. I called a gentleman, Dick Psolla, whom I met at a Penn State Turf Conference while I was a student. That phone call resulted in a professional relationship that now has spanned 44 years.
Twenty years ago, Dick recommended that I use molasses shortly after I had grown in a golf course in Arizona to improve plant health and microbial activity. Unfortunately, I didn’t take his recommendation. Again, 12 years ago Dick recommended that I try molasses and iron sulfate for plant health and microbial activity on yet another new course that I had grown in. He continued to recommend these products, but I held out for another 3 years.
Finally, I decided I would try it just to see if there was anything to it. I followed Dick’s recommendations of usage to the tee. By the second month I was able to tell a considerable difference in the grass. So I started experimenting.
After 5 years of research and development with different types of molasses and various nutrients that would be used to make up our own proprietary blends finding a way to keep the nutrients suspended in a filtered pasteurized and homogeneous blend, From The Ground Up, Inc. was started in April of 2000.
Our first year we had what we call “Our Signature Product” I-MOL. The following year we introduced M-MOL, C-MOL, K-MOL, and Z-MOL. We have now also introduced I-MOLPLUS, I-MOLPLUS 2, MICRO-MOL, and MAG-MOL. We have been fortunate to have customers all the way from the East Coast to the West Coast and in between. We are in the process of taking on new distributors to better serve our customers.
